Jewelry repair

Repairs done here,
not shipped somewhere else

A bench jeweler, a torch and a set of tools in the back of the shop. That's the difference between a week and a month.

What comes across the counter

The everyday repairs

Ring sizing

Up or down, in gold, silver or platinum. Rings with stones all the way around, or with a worn-through shank, take more work — we'll show you what's involved before starting.

Chains & clasps

Snapped links soldered, worn spring rings swapped for lobster clasps, and thin sections reinforced before they break again in the same spot.

Stones & prongs

If a stone moves when you tap it, it's on its way out. We retip worn prongs, rebuild heads, and reset stones that have already gone loose.

Pearls & beads

Restrung on silk and knotted between each pearl, so a broken strand costs you one pearl instead of forty.

Watches

Batteries, band sizing, pin and link replacement, and pressure-tested seals on water-resistant cases. Most of it while you wait.

Cleaning & refinishing

Ultrasonic cleaning, polishing, rhodium plating for white gold that has gone yellow, and re-finishing brushed or matte surfaces.

Hand engraving

Dates, initials, a short line inside a band, or a monogram on a locket. Done here, so a last-minute addition doesn't cost you two weeks.

Appraisals

Written appraisals for insurance, estates and division of property. Your piece is examined, measured and documented here — it never leaves the shop.

The bigger jobs

When a piece needs more than a fix

Some things arrive past the point of a simple repair — a ring worn paper-thin, a bracelet that's broken in the same place three times, an antique with parts that aren't made anymore.

  • Shank replacement and full ring rebuilds
  • Antique and estate restoration, matching the original style
  • Fabricating a replacement part by hand when nothing off the shelf fits
  • Converting a piece you never wear into one you will

We'll always tell you when a repair costs more than the piece is worth. Sometimes the honest answer is to leave it alone.

How it works

No surprises on the ticket

  • Look first. Bring the piece in and we'll examine it under the loupe with you standing there.
  • Price before work. You get the number up front. Nothing starts until you say go.
  • A real timeline. Simple jobs are often done within the week. Bigger ones get a date, not a shrug.
  • Checked before pickup. Every piece is cleaned and gone over again before it goes back in your hand.
